Reflective Journaling: Week 6

This was such a fun week! Typography is one of my many loves, so having a focus and learning new and known things this week was such a treat! I put a lot of extra pizazz into this week’s assignment and I had so much fun doing it! One of the things that I liked the most about the readings and resources given to us this week was the Helvetic film. At first, I am not going to lie, I was the over an hour time line and I was initially a bit hesitant about it. I decided to give it a shot after work one day, popped some popcorn, snuggled under a warm blanket, and really enjoyed the film! Coming from a graphic design background, typography is the bread and butter of so much of what I’ve done in my past, and it was nice to have a refresher on the building blocks that make up typography. When my graduating class and I got ready for walking at graduation for undergrad, we all tried to come up with punny quotes that had to involve typography or graphic design references to go on top of our caps. I actually picked Helvetica to create a bit of humor and a bit of sparkle to my graduation cap.

I really enjoyed the assignment we did this week and had so much fun creating my type system. I would really love to see what typefaces everyone else picked and how they chose to present their systems. There are quite a few graphic designers and visual designers in this course and I am sure they created something out of the box unique to play around with the fun of typography. It is crazy to think that next week is the last week of this class, but I have already learned and recapped on so much, I can’t wait to see what the rest of the UXD program has to offer!
